As I just load on the last of my Golden Belt Summer Swim Squad pictures I must admit I am taking quite a liking to sports photography! I had the opportunity to photograph the Great Bend Panther Golfers awhile back and now got the experience of a swim team. We are fairly new to the swimming world but both of my boys really love Summer Swim Squad. I have watched a small handful of meets as a parent/spectator but never as a photographer. Last summer my son only competed in the mornings with the younger kids so we never stayed past lunch to experience what a swim meet is like with older, more experienced kids. With Aaron moving up into the older kids division this year and Tyler starting out in the younger kids division we got the pleasure of being at the meet all day long. I find it so stinking cute to watch the little tiny beginners as they make their way through the pool in any fashion they can manage, some of them even feeling for the rope or wall for a little rest in the middle. That would so be me! Then to get to see where after just a few years of practice they end up by watching the older kids in the afternoon was quite impressive! I must say however that I think I lost a few pounds and looked like I had been in the pool by the time the day was over....I am such a sweat hog! Sports photography is so different then portrait photography. I really need to thank the other experienced photographers who were at the meet who graciously gave me pointers on camera settings to get such great action shots. Sports photography is a challenge and a waiting game to get just that right moment....but when you get it the result is so exciting! I love seeing the intensity, the fire, and sometimes the pure exhaustion on an athlete's face as they give it their all! While I love doing posed photography, I really hope that I get the opprotunity to mix it up more often with some sports photography as well!
